Hip Hop to Samba with Marcelo D2

Rapper Marcelo D2 also knows this. Restyled in the D2 fashion, the song above turned into Carioca. D2 plays an exclusive show today in Curitiba, in the Mill Events.

D2 is a musician with a strong personality. He’s become well known and done shows such as Planet Hemp - with his old band who disbanded in 2001.

Today, history is forgotten. In Carioca - the region north of Rio De Janeiro - D2 is in favor with samba fans, and though the samba-hip hop influence is in its infancy, it is currently gaining notoriety with cuious mixes in the works.

It is “The Art of the Racket”. In his most recent album, the rapper incorporates sped up guitars reminiscent of the times of Planet Hemp and passes for Carioca funk.

In its work, it is easy to perceive the exchange between the samba drums and the electronic bass of rap. These experimentations already had received reknown on Vídeo Music Brazil (VMB) of MTV and reached #6 in the Brazil Hot 100.

Mixing and finding new noises to add is not a problem for D2, finding inspiration from his unusual methods of production, for example, utilizing a live band with Zuzuca singer Powerful.

The funk present in “My Drum” presents the marcante voice of the Carioca who first crossed paths with Marcelo D2 in the virtual space of Myspace. This was the first music of the record, made at the end of 2007 in one of the many studios used by D2 to finish the compositions and the mixing of “The Art of the Racket”, in a farm in the interior of Rio De Janeiro.

Another prominent part of the album is the band My Mission, that counts on the partnership of Roberta Sá. Throughout the record, the friend and godfather of its son, Its Jorge, Talma de Freitas, Mariana Aydar, the Medaphor American, beyond its Stephan son participates in the songs and mixes of D2.

All these mixtures that D2 has tested successfully serve as base for tonight’s show, that it has the saem theme as the song form the beginning of this article: Relief.
